How Much Does Digital Marketing Cost in Europe?
Digital marketing budgets for EU small businesses in EUR, built from 50 agencies' published prices: channel medians, three worked budgets and bundles.
How much does digital marketing cost? For a small European business that hires help, a two-channel setup (SEO plus social media) comes to about €885 a month, and SEO plus managed Google Ads to about €926 a month in fees, plus whatever you pay Google for the ads themselves. Those figures add up the median published starting prices per channel, excl. VAT where the page says so, from the public price pages of 50 European agencies and freelancers in 13 countries, checked on 23 October 2026. Real quotes are often higher than starting prices.
Below you’ll find what a budget is made of, three example budgets with the arithmetic, and how bundles compare with buying channels one by one. SEO prices on their own get more detail in our SEO pricing guide.
In short
- Median published starting prices per month, excl. VAT where stated: SEO €450, local SEO €490, Google Ads management €475.78 (ad spend extra), social media €434.50.
- Email marketing packages ranged from €60 to €500 a month in a sample of four, too few for a median.
- Three example budgets: €884.50, €1,925.78 and €3,207.78 a month (the last two include €1,000 of ad spend).
- Few agencies in our sample publish bundle prices. We found three entry bundles, at €699, €780 and €1,400 a month.
- No independent study gives a reliable return-on-investment figure for digital marketing, so measure your own.
How much does it cost to do digital marketing?
It depends first on who does the work. Doing it yourself costs mostly time. Google Search Console is free, and you can add or claim a Google Business Profile at no charge. An email tool for about 1,000 contacts and 10,000 sends a month starts at €14 a month on Brevo’s Starter plan, excl. tax.
Hiring help is where the budget grows. Agencies usually price each channel as a separate monthly fee, so your total is the sum of the channels you pick.
What a digital marketing budget is made of
The table shows median published starting prices for the cheapest monthly package on each provider’s own price page (the second-cheapest where the row says so). Non-euro prices were converted at the ECB reference rate of 22 October 2026.
| Channel | Median starting price / month (excl. VAT where stated) | Providers (n) | Range seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO, entry package | €450 | 39 | €137 to €2,500 |
| SEO, second-cheapest package | €797.50 | 30 | €229 to €4,200 |
| Local SEO | €490 | 11 | €137 to €2,500 |
| Google Ads management (excl. ad spend) | €475.78 | 11 | €150 to €1,500 |
| Social media management | €434.50 | 6 | €175 to €949 |
| Email marketing | no median (n too small) | 4 | €60 to €500 |
None of the management fees above includes ad spend, the money you pay the ad platform. With Google Ads you set an average daily budget, and Google’s monthly spending limit is 30.4 times that figure for most campaigns.
Several entry SEO packages include articles and others include none, so check how many pieces a month you get. Email software is often billed on top of the agency fee; email marketing costs compares the tools.
Then there is VAT. Ireland’s standard rate is 23%. Google Ireland adds Irish VAT to Google Ads accounts in Ireland, while a VAT-registered business elsewhere in the EU gets no VAT on its Google invoice and self-assesses VAT at its own country’s rate, according to Google.
If you mainly serve one area, you may not need a separate local SEO line, because several entry SEO packages in the sample already include Google Business Profile work. Local SEO pricing covers the stand-alone option.
Three example budgets
All three use the medians above. The €1,000 of ad spend is our assumption for the examples; Google doesn’t state a minimum budget on the help pages we checked.
1. Local business, organic only
SEO €450 + social media €434.50 = €884.50 a month in fees. If you send your own newsletter on Brevo Starter, add €14: €898.50.
2. Leads now, plus long-term search
SEO €450 + Google Ads management €475.78 = €925.78 in fees. With €1,000 of ad spend the total is €1,925.78 a month. Google counts 30.4 days in an average month, so €1,000 a month is an average daily budget of about €32.89 (1,000 ÷ 30.4).
3. Four channels
SEO second-cheapest package €797.50 + Google Ads management €475.78 + social media €434.50 + email €500 = €2,207.78 in fees. With €1,000 of ad spend the total is €3,207.78 a month. The email figure is the top of the €60 to €500 range, a package with four campaigns a month.
If an Irish agency bills an Irish business, 23% VAT goes on top of the agency fees, so example 1 becomes €1,087.94 (884.50 × 1.23).
What is the average cost of digital marketing?
We found no reliable European average. Several top results for this search come from a US agency and a UK comparison site, in dollars or pounds, with ranges such as $1,000 to $20,000+ or £1,000 to £10,000 a month. The Irish agency pages in the same results give euro ranges without saying how they were worked out. All of these are averages or broad ranges, and a few large retainers pull an average up. We use medians of published prices instead, which describe the small-business end of the market.
You can also set a budget as a share of revenue. Gartner’s 2026 CMO Spend Survey put total marketing budgets at 7.8% of company revenue in 2026, up from 7.7% in 2025. Its 401 respondents were marketing leaders in North America, the UK and Europe, mostly at companies with annual revenue above $1 billion, so the figure says little about a ten-person firm. It also covers all marketing, digital and otherwise.
Bundles or channels bought separately?
Few agencies publish bundle prices. In our dataset only three did at entry level: €699, €780 and €1,400 a month. Higher bundles were €1,199 and €2,000 (three or more channels). Three data points are too few for a market median, each bundle contains different things, and none of these bundle pages says whether its prices include VAT.
Our own prices show how to compare a bundle with its parts. All are from our pricing page, excl. VAT:
| Option | Monthly price (excl. VAT) | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| SEO plan + Performance Ads plan | €690 + €990 = €1,680 + ad spend | SEO (incl. 4 articles a month and local SEO), Google & Meta Ads management |
| Full Funnel | €1,890/mo + ad spend | Everything in SEO & Performance Ads, plus email marketing & automation, social media content (8 posts/mo), conversion rate optimisation, quarterly strategy session |
| SEO + Performance Ads + Email marketing and Social media content add-ons | €690 + €990 + €490 + €590 = €2,760 + ad spend | Social media content add-on is 12 posts a month; conversion rate optimisation and the strategy session aren’t listed |
Full Funnel costs €210 a month more than the two plans on their own (€1,890 − €1,680) and adds email, eight social posts, conversion work and the quarterly session. The add-on route costs €870 more than Full Funnel (€2,760 − €1,890), but the contents differ: you get 12 social posts instead of 8, and two Full Funnel items aren’t in it. So compare them on what you would actually use. Of the bundles we found, Full Funnel is closest in price to the €2,000 top bundle (three or more channels), whose page doesn’t state VAT.
Is digital marketing actually worth it?
We found no independent study with a described method that gives a reliable return figure for digital marketing. The return claims on the agency pages in this search come from their own surveys or have no source, so we don’t repeat them here.
You can measure it for your own business. Track enquiries and sales per channel, and work out what each lead costs: the channel’s monthly fee plus ad spend, divided by the leads it brought in. For SEO, compare the clicks in Search Console with what the same clicks would cost in Google Ads. Give search time before you judge it; how long SEO takes explains why. If a channel costs more per lead than a customer is worth to you, cut it and move the money.
