How Much Does Google Ads Cost? Spend and Fees

Google Ads cost is the ad spend you set plus any management fee. Google's billing limits in EUR, honest CPC caveats, VAT, and 11 published agency fees.

How much does Google Ads cost? You pay for two things: the ad spend that goes to Google, which you set yourself, and a management fee if someone runs the account for you. Under Google’s billing rules, a €20 average daily budget costs at most €608 in a month. Among 11 European agencies that publish a Google Ads management price, the median starting fee was €475.78 a month on top of ad spend.

Google’s budget rules decide how fast the ad spend goes, and agency fees and VAT come on top. If you are also weighing organic search, see how SEO pricing compares.

In short

  • Google Ads cost = ad spend (paid to Google) + management fee (if you hire help).
  • For most campaigns, Google can spend up to 2× your average daily budget on one day, but never charges more than 30.4× it in a month.
  • The Google help pages we checked don’t state a minimum budget. Google’s advice is “Start small.”
  • Published management fees in our European sample ran from €150 to €1,500 a month, with a median of €475.78. All 11 were flat fees.
  • Google charges Irish advertisers Irish VAT, currently 23%. VAT-registered businesses elsewhere in the EU self-assess VAT under the reverse charge.

How Google bills your budget

You set an average daily budget per campaign, which Google describes as “the average amount that you set for each ad campaign on a per-day basis” (Google Ads Help). Traffic varies, so for most campaigns spend can reach two times your average daily budget on a given day. Over a month, you are never charged more than 30.4 times your average daily budget. 30.4 is 365 ÷ 12, the average number of days in a month.

Google’s own example uses $10 a day, which gives a $304 monthly maximum (Choose your bid and budget). The same rules in euro:

Average daily budgetMost it can spend in one dayMost you pay in a month
€10€20€304
€20€40€608
€30€60€912
€50€100€1,520

Campaign total budgets are the exception. They run for 3 to 90 days and, in Google’s words, “don’t have a daily cap (such as the 2x daily limit)” (How budget changes take effect).

Google doesn’t state a minimum budget on the help pages we checked. Its tip on Choose your bid and budget is “Start small,” and its Smart campaigns page adds that “there may be a minimum transaction amount when you make a prepay” (Understanding costs and payments).

How expensive is it to run Google Ads?

It costs the budget you set, plus a fee if you pay for help. A small local campaign at €20 a day costs up to €608 a month in ad spend. If you run it yourself, that is the whole bill apart from VAT where it applies. With an agency charging the median published fee in our sample, the total is about €1,084 a month (€608 + €475.78) before VAT.

How many clicks that buys depends on click prices in your market. Google says you’ll often pay less than your maximum bid, and that its auction “uses both quality and bid to determine your ad’s position” (Choose your bid and budget).

What a click costs, and the limits of benchmarks

LocaliQ/WordStream’s 2026 search advertising report is one benchmark that at least names its data source. It gives an average cost per click of $5.42 (about €4.84 at the ECB rate of 22 October 2026) and an average cost per lead of $66.69 (LocaliQ, updated 1 June 2026). Some of its industry averages:

IndustryAverage CPC (USD)
Attorneys & Legal Services$9.87
Home & Home Improvement$8.33
Dentists & Dental Services$8.00
Business Services$5.87
Real Estate$3.22

Use these with care. The data mixes Google Ads and Microsoft Ads campaigns from “thousands of our customers,” and the report page states no country base, sample size or data period. WordStream’s own Google Ads cost guide describes the same $5.42 as an average across businesses and keywords “in the US”. We found no published CPC benchmark for Ireland or in euro that describes its method.

Your own keywords are a better guide. Google’s Keyword Planner shows estimates of the searches keywords receive “and the cost to target them” (Use Keyword Planner), and Google adds that your bid, budget, ad quality and location targeting all affect the results you get.

Is $20 a day good for Google Ads?

$20 is about €17.85 a day, or at most about €543 a month. At €2 a click that buys roughly 9 clicks a day. At €4.84, the LocaliQ average converted to euro, it buys 3 or 4. For one service in one local area, that can be enough to start learning which searches turn into enquiries. A broad national campaign in an industry with high click prices is likely to get only a handful of clicks a day, so check Keyword Planner’s estimates for your own keywords first.

On 23 October 2026 we checked the public price pages of 11 European agencies and freelancers that publish a Google Ads management price. All prices exclude ad spend. Seven of the 11 pages say their prices exclude VAT; the other four don’t state it clearly.

What we foundFigure
Lowest published starting fee€150/mo
Median starting fee€475.78/mo
Highest published starting fee€1,500/mo
Pricing modelAll 11 publish a flat monthly fee; none publishes a percentage of spend
Setup fees seen€300, about €238 (£199) and about €476 (4,990 NOK)

Two UK agencies tie their flat fee to spend bands, so the fee rises as your budget grows. One French agency says it also offers a percentage model but doesn’t publish the rate. Two agencies in the sample recommend a minimum ad spend, one €300 a month and the other €1,000 to €2,000 a month. Those minimums are agency recommendations, not Google requirements.

Before you sign, ask whether the fee is flat or a share of spend, whether there is a setup fee or minimum term, and whose name the account is in.

VAT on Google Ads in the EU

Google’s tax page says accounts in EU countries are served by Google Ireland Ltd., with exceptions for some products in France and Italy. For a business elsewhere in the EU, Google doesn’t add VAT unless you chose “Eligible non-business” at signup. You are “responsible for self-assessing and paying VAT at your EU member state’s local rate,” which is the reverse charge (Taxes in your country).

Irish accounts are treated differently. Google’s page says “All Google Ads accounts in Ireland are subject to Value Added Tax (VAT) at the Irish rate”, with an option to declare a 13b/56b VAT exemption. That rate is currently 23% (Revenue), so €608 of ad spend becomes €747.84 with VAT. Your agency invoices its management fee separately, with its own VAT treatment.

Is it worth paying for Google Ads?

It is worth it when a customer is worth more than it costs to win one through ads, and you can work that out before you spend. If one in 20 clicks becomes a customer and clicks cost €2, each customer costs €40 in ad spend. If the profit on a typical first sale is higher than that, plus your share of the management fee, the numbers can work. If it isn’t, fix the landing page or the offer before you raise the budget. The calculation needs conversion tracking from day one, because without it you don’t know how many clicks become customers.

SEO vs Google Ads

Google Ads charges for every click, and visibility ends when the budget does. With SEO you pay for the work, the clicks themselves are free, and results build over months. We found no independent study comparing the return of the two, so we don’t quote a ratio. Ads fit demand you need to reach this month, and SEO fits searches you want to keep winning without paying per click. If you are planning both, our guides on how long SEO takes and the overall digital marketing budget cover the rest.
